What we work on

recovery & substance use

Recovery is more than stopping substance use. It’s learning to handle life, emotions, and relationships without relying on substances as your main way of coping. I work with people who are actively in recovery, building a foundation of sobriety, or seriously considering a change.

The work

how we work on it

01

The next phase after IOP

I often work with clients transitioning out of Intensive Outpatient Programs who have established some sobriety and want continued support through the next phase of recovery. Our work may include maintaining recovery, strengthening coping skills, and understanding triggers.

02

The purpose the behavior serves

I believe substance use can sometimes be a way of coping with deeper pain, trauma, anxiety, or shame. Understanding what it’s been doing for you doesn’t mean avoiding accountability. It gives us a starting point for change that lasts.

03

A recovery community that fits

Recovery community can take many forms, and it doesn’t have to be a traditional 12-step program. We’ll look for support that fits your values and goals, and work on your mental health alongside it rather than after it.

Two ways we might work

harm reduction or abstinence-first

Depending on your needs, goals, and relationship with substances, we may incorporate harm reduction principles or take an abstinence-first approach.

Harm reduction

Where it fits your goals and your relationship with substances, we work from harm reduction principles, reducing risk and consequences while we get at the underlying patterns that contribute to the use.

Abstinence-first

For clients who struggle to control their use, maintaining abstinence and developing a strong recovery support system are important priorities, and that’s where the work starts.

My approach combines compassion with honesty, helping you understand not only what is happening, but why — and how to build a life in which recovery and mental health can both be supported.
