questions, answered plainly.

The practical things people usually want to know before reaching out. If yours isn’t here, just ask.

What happens in a first session?

Mostly conversation. We’ll talk about what brought you in, a little history, and what you’re hoping for. There’s no pressure to have it all figured out. You’ll leave with a sense of how we’d work together.

What actually happens in sessions?

A mix of talking and doing. We might trace a pattern back to where it started, or I’ll pause and ask what you’re noticing in your body right now, then walk you through grounding skills to settle that tension. You’ll often leave with something small to try between sessions.

How long will I be in therapy?

It depends on what you’re working through and your goals. Some people come for a focused season; others stay longer. We’ll check in regularly, so it always feels like your call.

Do you offer a free consultation?

Yes. A free 25-minute consultation before we book anything, so you can get a feel for me and ask questions with no commitment.

Do you take insurance?

I’m in-network with BlueCross BlueShield of NC, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, and Optum. For other plans I provide a monthly superbill you can submit for out-of-network reimbursement.

What does a session cost?

Individual sessions are $175–200 for 50 minutes, and all major cards are accepted. A limited number of income-based sliding-scale spots are available, so please ask if cost is a barrier.

What if I need to cancel?

Life happens. Just give at least 24 hours’ notice. Cancellations inside 24 hours or missed sessions are charged a $125 fee, since the time was held for you.

Can I get a Good Faith Estimate?

Yes. You have the right to a Good Faith Estimate of your expected costs, and under the No Surprises Act you can request one in writing before scheduling.

Telehealth or in-person?

Both. You’re welcome at the Park Road office in Charlotte, or we can meet by secure video anywhere in North or South Carolina, whichever fits your week.

Is what I share confidential?

Yes. What we discuss stays between us, with the narrow legal exceptions every therapist follows (like risk of serious harm). I’ll walk you through those up front.

Do you prescribe medication?

No, as a therapist I don’t prescribe. I do practice collaborative care, though: when medication is part of the picture, I coordinate with your prescriber (a psychiatrist or psychiatric nurse practitioner) so therapy and medication management are working toward the same goals. Already have a prescriber, or need a referral to one? I’ll keep open communication with them so your care stays connected.

Do you offer clinical supervision?

Yes. I supervise LCMHC-A associates working toward full licensure, grounded in the same Nova Method that shapes the therapy. If you’re an associate looking for supervision, reach out to talk about fit, availability, and rate. You can read more on the clinical supervision page.
